barbas

52cmx114cm

2020

this piece was made as soon as i returned from a trip to cape verde.

the crown of “barbas” is a toilet seat and plastic skewers used in mussel farming.

The head structure is made with tubes and pipe connections.

the pieces that surround the eyes i brought them from cape verde, they belong to the ferry “Pentalina b” that shipwrecked in santiago.

these fragments are melamine finishes used in the interior furniture of the ferry.

these pieces do not float, and were caught in the shallows by me and a special group of children from the SOS village!

All the fragments used were collected by me on remote beaches and bays along our coast. In order not to increase the existing environmental footprint, all fragments were used as they were found, they were not manipulated or broken, no glues, paints or varnishes are used. All fragments are screwed or knotted. The structure of the piece is also made with these materials and following these rules.
